David Paul – President

David Paul is the founder and president of Dimension Systems, Inc., an information management consulting firm specializing in providing consulting services which focus on applying information technology to address strategic business issues. Mr. Paul was born in Detroit, Michigan, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics as well as an MBA from Eastern Michigan University.

Mr. Paul began his career in data processing in 1973 with the Ann Arbor Public Schools as a Systems Analyst and Assistant Data Processing Manager. In 1975, he accepted a position with Oakland Schools, a Michigan intermediate school district responsible for providing administrative and educational support services for local school districts. During his tenure at Oakland Schools, he was responsible for the design and development of financial and student administrative computer systems as well as providing consulting services to local school district personnel.

In 1978 he accepted a position with General Motors Corporation as one of the company’s first data base administrators. In this capacity he was responsible for the design and implementation of large highly complex data bases as well as the development of corporate procedures and guidelines.

Mr. Paul was appointed to a project manager’s position in 1981 in the Payroll and Personnel Systems area. In this capacity he was responsible for the development of large Human Resource systems, including a sickness and disability system as well as a salaried payroll system. Responsibilities also included a staff of 11 people assigned to review packaged software intended to replace a payroll system that supported over 400,000 employees.

In 1983 being assigned to the Marketing Services Department of the GM Information Systems and Communications Activity, he was responsible for the development of an Information Systems Planning methodology. This was designed to assess current data processing operability and effectiveness as well as recommend an approach to align future data processing activities with executive management direction. Mr. Paul and others conducted over 10 Information Systems Plans during his tenure both throughout the United States and overseas.

In 1984, Mr. Paul was transferred to the corporate Strategic Planning Group as a staff consultant responsible for developing corporate planning direction as well as assisting staffs and divisions in the development of short- and long-term plans.

Leaving General Motors in 1985 to found Dimension Systems, Inc. In this capacity, Mr. Paul has assisted clients with the development of long-range and tactical information system plans, the implementation of new hardware, communications equipment and networks, and applications along with providing interim management support.

Ravi Shanker – Enterprise Services Director

Ravi manages the teams responsible for the delivery of services to Dimension Systems clients and plays a key role in the development of service initiatives designed for various clients.

In his role as Enterprise Services Director, Ravi provides technical leadership in the areas of ERP Support, Database Administration (DBA) Support for Oracle, MS SQL Server, and DB2 UDB platforms. In addition, Ravi provides technical leadership in the areas of Unix Support for Solaris, AIX and HP-UX platforms and project management for large-scale projects related to ERP Support, DBA Support and Unix Support.

Technical Experience

  • 8 + years experience in Operating Systems: Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Windows NT/2000/2003, Novell NetWare, Linux, Windows 95/98/ME/XP DOS
  • 9 + Years Experience in Software & Tools: Oracle 10g/9i/8i/8/7.3, SQL Server 2000, DB2 UDB 8.1 and Peoplesoft 6/7/7.5/8

PeopleSoft Knowledge & Types of Tasks Performed

PeopleSoft Upgrade

  • Upgrade client with PeopleSoft HRMS from 7.01 to 8.01.
  • Upgrade client with PeopleSoft Financials from 6.0 to 7.53.
  • Project management, including client’s tasks during upgrades.
  • Performs all needed DBA work on conversion database (adding tables, increasing tablespaces, altering data and indices, etc.).
  • Performance tuning and SQL tuning for PeopleSoft applications.

PeopleSoft Installation

  • Installation and configuration of PeopleSoft client and server software.
  • Installation and configuration of PeopleSoft Application Server .
  • Installation and configuration of PeopleSoft Process Scheduler.
  • On an 8.0 upgrade team – including responsibility for necessary DBA work.
  • Installed all PeopleSoft ancillary software (e.g., SQR, COBOL).

Day to Day PeopleSoft Operational Deliverables

  • Troubleshooted PeopleSoft problems.
  • Expertise in PeopleSoft Application Engine.
  • Internal process improvement (with other DBA’s).

Database Projects & Initiatives

  • Installation of Oracle 7.3 and Oracle 8 server software, database creation and management of several databases ranging in size from 2 GB to 30 GB on Sun Enterprise Servers and Windows NT servers.
  • Planning and implementation of physical database layout with customized parameter file, multiplexed control files, multiplexed online redo log files and other OFA requirements.
  • Create, customize, frequently tested and implemented recovery procedures for several production databases.
  • Develop and modify Unix shell scripts for automating cold and hot backups using cron.
  • Develop and implement database backup and recovery strategies using tools and techniques such as export/ import, RMAN, recovery catalog.
  • Install and configure SQL*Plus, OEM Modules and Net8 on client machines and listeners on servers.
  • Coordinate data migration from mainframe system using SQL Loader.
  • Troubleshooted database problems by analysis of trace files, V$ views, alert logs, and using tools such as UTLBSTAT/UTLESTAT, TKPROF, and Explain Plan.
  • Provide performance-tuning support to application developers for several test and development databases with focus on tuning SQL queries, SGA, disk I/O, and resource contention.
  • Create and maintain users, profiles, roles, and privileges.
  • Oversees capacity and the planning, creating, monitoring, and maintaining of database structures such as tablespaces, rollback segments, datafiles, indexes, archive logs, init.ora files, control files.
